A 24-year-old youth of Fateh Singh colony in the city committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence on Friday, allegedly due to harassment by three persons, including a woman, of his locality who were later booked.

Before killing himself, Rahul alias Sajan recorded a 41-second video, wherein he blamed Manjit Kaur, Thekedar Sri Ram and Harpreet Singh for his suicide.

In the video, Rahul said, “Manjit Kaur, Thekedar Sri Ram and Sardar Tempo Wala (Harpeet Singh), who live in our locality, have harassed us a lot. That’s why I am committing suicide. If anything happens to me, the trio will be responsible for that.”

On the basis of the video and a complaint filed by the deceased’s maternal uncle, Ajay Kumar, police booked the three accused under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of IPC. They are on the run.

Talking to HT, Ajay Kumar said, “Rahul, along with his friends, was standing near an abandoned plot in his locality on Sunday, when Sri Ram came there, along with Harpreet, and started scolding him. This led to an an altercation between the two. On Monday, Sri Ram lodged a false complaint to the police stating that Rahul had bullied and attacked him.” He said Harpreet had incited Sri Ram to get Rahul booked.

He said, “On Tuesday, we went to Sri Ram’s house and apologised on behalf of Rahul and requested him not to pursue the case. But he didn’t pay any heed to our repeated requests.”

He added, “Rahul had given Rs 45,000 to Manjit Kaur for settling the dispute, but she didn’t help him nor did she return the money.”
