MANDI MINOR’S RAPE: 24YROLD MAN ARRESTED

MANDI: The police have arrested a 24-year-old man in the Sarkaghat minor rape case, from a food joint in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Thursday The accused has been identified as Simple of Barakut village, Sarkaghat sub-division, Mandi district.

Investigating officer- cum-station house officer (SHO) ,women police station, Mandi, Atti Devi confirmed the accused’s arrest. The victim, 13, who is pregnant is undergoing treatment at the zonal hospital, Mandi, said the SHO.

The police are waiting for the opinion of the senior gynecologist on aborting the child. The SHO said that the consent of victim’s father and grandparents will be necessary to perform abortion on the girl. The accused will be produced in the court after fulfilling legal formalities, said police.

The victim’s grandfather said that her granddaughter did not reveal about the incident although he noticed few behavioural changes in her daily routine.

‘ACCUSED KNOWN TO THE VICTIM’

The accused knew the victim, said police. He offered to accompany the victim to her school and raped her, said police.

The rape of the 13-year-old girl of Sarkaghat area came to light on Wednesday, after she complained of stomach pain. A trip to the Mandi zonal hospital revealed she was pregnant. A case of rape was registered. HTC
