2 gangsters nabbed by cops after hot chase in Amritsar

They were wanted in several criminal cases; are believed to be associated with Singaporeb­ased gangster Pavittar; two pistols, bullets seized

: The Amritsar (rural) Police on Friday claimed to have nabbed two gangsters after a cross fire at Budha Theh village in Majitha area of the district.

Majitha police said they received an input about the presence of some suspicious persons in Majitha area and brought it to the notice of their seniors. They formed separate teams and went on a hunt, said SSP (Amritsar-rural) Parampal Singh.

They were identified as Gangsters Balraj Singh alias Buri of Basant Kot village and Harman, a resident of Umarpura in Majitha. During search, two pistols, 13 live cartridges and two magazines were recovered from them.They accused were facing several cases of criminal activities earlier and further investigat­ion is on.

“The police parties reached Budha Theh village and soon the suspects opened fire at the cops and began to escape. Later, they snatched a tractor from a man on pistol point and the police gave them a chase,” he said.

“During the chase, the two kept firing at the police and entered a narrow street of the village from where they could not get the tractor through. They abandoned the tractor and entered a house, got to its roof and jumped to the adjacent house. They kept firing at the police team,” said the SSP. He said, “The police nabbed the two, only after ensuring the safety of the house occupants. During this entire chase, police also retaliated to the gunshots the accused fired.”The police were after them for several cases, Parampal said.

Now, a fresh case was registered against them at Majitha police station under Section 307, 379-b (2), 25, 54,59 of the Arms Act, and Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Preliminar­y investigat­ions revealed that Harman was wanted by the police in a case under Section 302 (murder) of Fatehgarh Churian and another case in which their gang extorted ₹15 lakh from Mehta area and injured a person with bullets.

Further investigat­ions are on and it was revealed that gangster Pavittar, who operates from Singapore, was supporting these two gangsters and the pistols seized in were also arranged by Pavittar, the SSP said.The police is collecting further informatio­n and details of cases faced by the duo.
