India has started an enquiry after passengers on flight from London to Delhi complained of “life-threatening flying” and a “horror movie-like landing” on May 7. Flight AI 162 landed at Delhi airport at 10.50pm and after deboarding, passengers filed a complaint with the airline’s customer care at Terminal 3.

“We had life threatening fly and landing today, the plane could not stabilise for even an hour. The staffs were absolutely rude and were not helping,” wrote one of the passengers in the complaint book. It was the same day, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and airspace around it was hit by a thunderstorm and high wind speed which had affected flight operations.

A source at Air India, who did not wish to be identified, said all passengers appeared furious and visibly scared, and two of them filed a written complaint.

“We are analysing the flight data, which will take time. If anything suspicious is found, the matter will be referred to the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The breathe analyser test of pilot was done before takeoff and after landing and no one was tested positive,” said Pradeep Singh Kharola, chairman, managing director of the national carrier.

Air India is also reaching out to other passengers and checking the weather of entire route.

‘LIVED THROUGH A HORROR MOVIE’

“Another passenger wrote that he had a horrible flight and the experience was like that of living through a horror movie. He had a return flight from Air India, but requested to change airlines, saying he would never travel with Air India again. He said that he would have nervous breakdown if he flies with Air India again,” said an Air India staff, quoting the complaint.
