The appointment comes in the wake of the suspension of HSSC chairman Bharat Bhushan Bharti on Friday following protests by Brahmin organisations over an objectionable question pertaining to the community in a recently held written examination conducted by HSSC.

Bharti would remain suspended till the completion of an inquiry into the matter to be conducted by retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Darshan Singh.

The members of Brahmin community held protests over the issue in different parts of the state recently.

Their representatives called on chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday and conveyed to him that they felt insulted and hurt over the objectionable question.

The objectionable question in the written examination for the posts of junior engineers held on April 10 asked the candidates which one among the following is not a bad omen in Haryana. The options for the answer were: sight of an empty pot, a casket, a black Brahmin, a Brahmin girl.
