A driver was killed and 20 others were injured after three Haryana Roadways buses collided with each other in Rewari on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Rewari-Narnaul road at Pandala village. The accident was so fierce that the front parts of two buses got completely damaged.

The deceased has been identified as Roshan Lal, a driver of one of the buses. He died on the spot. The police said at least four of the injured were critical and have been referred to the trauma centre in Rewari and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.

Khol police station SHO Vijender Kumar said the accident took place when two speeding buses were going towards Narnaul from Rewari. One of these buses tried to overtake the other, but it collided head on with a bus coming from the opposite direction. Another bus coming from behind also couldn’t apply brakes in time and collided with the two buses, intensifying the jolt.

Some locals had earlier cited a dust storm as the cause of accident, but the police denied the theory.

The police said they were investigating into the matter and will register a case of negligence and rash driving against those found guilty.

Meanwhile, local residents blamed the government for not working on the four-laning of Rewari-Narnaul highway, which is prone to deadly accidents that claim a couple of lives almost every day.

Minister of state for public health engineering Banwari Lal called on the injured at the Rewari hospital and assured them of all possible assistance from the administration.
