AMRITSAR : A 65-year-old man died on Sunday after a stray bull attacked him in a locality near the Lohgarh Gate here on Saturday night. The victim has been identified as Parveen Mehra of Gali Bagichi Wali.

The incident occurred 10 days after Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had a narrow escape when a stray bull attacked a group of people standing with him outside the Durgiana Temple here.

Parveen’s son Rohin Mehra said his father, after taking dinner, went for a walk in the street. “Around 9:30 pm, a stray bull came from behind and attacked my father. He fell on the ground. When we came to know about the incident, we rushed to the spot and found my father in an unconscious state there. We rushed him to a local private hospital. But he died during treatment on Sunday.”

He said stray cattle have become a big threat to lives of the people in the city. “I appeal to the administration to take strict action against stray cattle to save lives of people,” he said.

Though the cattle pound department (CPD) of the municipal corporation (MC) had swung into action soon after a stray bull attacked Sidhu and others and launched a kneejerk drive to tame the stray bulls in the city but stray bulls, dogs and other cattle can be seen wandering all over in the holy city.

Expressing ignorance about the incident, CPD inspector Sukhwinder Singh Wahla said his department has been taking strict action to tame the stray cattle .
