ROHTAK : Jind resident Kartik scored 99.6% marks to top the Haryana Board Class 10 exams, the results of which were announced by the board on Monday. Kartik is a student of Nav Durga Senior Secondary School in Jind.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Kartik said he wants to become an IFS officer.

Kartik said he studied six hours daily to achieve this performance. “I strategically made my time table and devoted more time for topics I found difficult. I ensured I study at least six hours on a regular basis, and during exams, increased this time to nine hours a day,” he said.

Kartik’s father is a watchman in the irrigation wing of the public works department (PWD) department. His mother passed away last year.

Kartik has now chosen the science stream with both mathematics and biology. He scored full 100 in science, mathematics and Sanskrit. “I love all subjects. But if I really have to choose one, then it would be mathematics. I really enjoy solving the equations,” he said.

A planner, Kartik has already started preparing for the UPSC exams as he wants to join the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the future. “I have made reading newspapers and other general studies books as my hobby so I can crack the UPSC exam and become an IFS officer. I want to work for my country by staying outside, as I want to improve India’s image in the world. There is so much to this country that people living outside don’t know about,” he said.

Unusually for a Haryana Board student, Kartik is fluent in spoken English. “This will be an advantage for me in IFS,” he said. The young lad said he wanted to thank his parents and school teachers for motivating him to do better.

Asked how he would like to celebrate his brilliant feat, Kartik said, “All I know is that I’m very happy for my results. Rest, I’ll go with whatever others plan,” he said.
