COMMISSIONER OF POLICE A S CHAWLA SAYS THEY HAVE TAKEN UP MATTER WITH THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR LEGAL OPINION

PANCHKULA : Four days after the government decided to register an FIR against the Delhi-based company that got the contract to set the question paper, the papersetter, and the publisher in Panchkula; no case has been registered by the police so far in this regard.

While the government had suspended the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) chairman Bharat Bhushan Bharti on Thursday; the Panchkula police on the other hand, have failed to register a case, citing legal issues that are to be considered before lodging an FIR.

Panchkula commissioner of police AS Chawla said they have taken up the matter with the district attorney (DA) for legal opinion. “Prima facie it seemed that there was no mala fide intention in regard with the matter. As per our investigation, the matter does not bear any criminal intent or any criminal offence in the first place following which we have taken up the matter with the DA officer for legal opinion,” he said.

After the cash for job scam hit the HSSC in April, in which its four employees were arrested, the recruitment body got into another raging controversy for asking a question in the April 10 written examination of Junior Engineers (JEs-Civil), the ominous person among four categories including the dark-skinned Brahmin (kala brahmin) and the Brahmin girl.

On the other hand, district attorney Pankaj Garg said, “There is some miscommunication in regard with the police department. A letter was sent to the office, but it was later taken up with the police department after verification mentioning that the DA’s office is not the authority concerned. The police department has its own law officers and officials and as the matter is linked with the police, they are the one to take the final call.”

Officials said the matter is under consideration and will be finalised within a day or two. The raging controversy has brought under spotlight the functioning of the HSSC chairman Bharti, who is perceived to be a close confidant of CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

SURJEWALA SLAMS HSSC

CHANDIGARH Former Haryana minister and communication in-charge at All India Congress Committee (AICC) Randeep Surjewala has slammed the HSSC for being “a hub of corruption”. In a statement, Surjewala said recent developments pertaining to the arrest of employees of the commission indicate that the recruiting agency was playing with the future of the youth of the state.
