3 killed in Dasuya mishap

HOSHIARPUR : Three people were killed when a tipper hit a tractor trolley, a scooterist and a motorcyclist on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway near the Dasuya railway station on Monday.
The police have arrested tipper driver Ravinder Singh (27) of Harchowal in Sri Hargobindpur.
The accident occurred around 3 pm. The tipper driver, coming from the Tanda side, rammed in to the vehicles one after the other. Eyewitnesses said an army jeep was also hit but it did not suffer much loss. Tractor driver Avtar Singh ,55, of Dadial village died on the spot. Motorcyclist Kewal Singh, 70, a resident of Jalota and scooterist Balwant Singh,60, of Nihalpur colony Dasuya died in the civil hospital.
Dasuya DSP Rajinder Sharma confirmed that the driver had been arrested and a case registered against him under Section 304(culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash driving endangering human lives) of the Indian Penal Code.
“The driver was driving very haphazardly. He had hit another car in Tanda before causing the fatalities in Dasuya. His medical has indicated that he was under the influence of some intoxicant other than alcohol,” the DSP informed.
