POLICE TRACED THE CAR TO TARN TARAN WHERE IT WAS ALLEGEDLY ABANDONED BY THE ACCUSED

: A group of armed men looted the car of a SAD sarpanch at gunpoint near HMV College here on Friday morning. However, the car was later traced by the police in Tarn Taran, where it was abandoned.

In his complaint, Akali Dal sarpanch from Wariana village and owner of a hotel Jaswant Singh said he, along with his family, was travelling to Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and his driver was driving the car.

He said when they crossed HMV College around 5:30am, a man came in front of the car and threw a stone at the car.

The driver stopped the car and started arguing with the man, he said.

“In the meantime, four men with covered faces carrying sharp-edged weapons came there. One of the men pointed a gun at me and asked my family members to come out of the car,” he said. “Fearing that the men might fire at them, we came out of the car,” he added.

Then the accused entered the car and drove away, he said.

He said two mobile phones and important documents were also in the car.

According to the police, the accused fled to Amritsar and the car was spotted crossing the Dhilwan toll plaza. Later, Amritsar and Tarn Taran police were alerted by the city police.

Commissioner of police Praveen Kumar Sinha said, “We found the car in Tarn Taran where it was abandoned. We are trying to trace the accused.”
