The Yamunanagar police have booked a 21-year-old youth for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl of the district. The accused was identified as Rahul Kumar, a resident of Harda village of Ambala district.

Family members of the victim have named five women who allegedly helped the accused in the crime, but the police said that this claim needs to be investigated.

As per the police complaint filed by the victim to the office of Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Kalia on May 7, the victim was alone at her house and one of the women named in the first information report (FIR) called her at their residence in Kharwan village and allegedly gave her some intoxicant in the tea served to her.

The accused then allegedly raped her and also threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anybody. They alleged that on May 14 again, one of the women took her outside the house around 9pm and two youths again raped her at a deserted place and fled.

Later, the girl disclosed this to her family and they took up the matter with the police at Jagadhri Sadar police station.

However, they said that the police did not register their FIR then, following which, they approached the SP and he forwarded their complaint to women police station.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Yamunanagar women police station in-charge Sheelawanti said that the FIR has been registered against six people under Section 4 and 17 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and investigation was going on.

She said that the police was also investigating the case whether the victim had any relationship with the accused.
