Kapurthala district administrative complex to be ready by September
KAPURTHALA : The work on the Kapurthala district administrative complex, which will house all government departments, will be completed by September, said project in-charge Sardar Tehal Singh on Thursday.
The project, which was commissioned by government in 2011, is already five years behind its initial deadline.
The ₹51.7-crore project, conceived to provide all administrative services to the public under one roof, was awarded to the public works department (PWD) and was expected to be finished within two years.
The funds to construct the building are being provided by Punjab Urban Development Authority (Puda) and the PWD has received ₹46.92 crore of the allocated amount till now.
A PWD official, who did not want to be named, said, “About 80% of the flooring is complete and painting work is going on. The doors and windows are almost ready.”
Sardar Tehal Singh, who is also the executive engineer, said, “We have informed Puda that we are running short of ₹4 crore.”
“The construction has been going on uninterrupted for the past five months and we are expecting to complete it by the September end,” he added.
The PWD had to stop construction between May 2012 and December 2012 that led to increase in the cost of construction, an official had earlier said.
