Three arrested for killing cable operator’s employee, his father

AMRITSAR: The Amritsar B-division police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection to the double-murder case that took place on June 16.

The accused have been identified as Prempreet Singh, alias Prince, Manpreet Singh and Hardeep Singh of Sultanwind.

They were among the 12 people booked for attacking a cable operator’s employee and his father with sharp-edged weapons and bricks over a tiff while replacing a set-top box at Tahliwala area, police said.

Gagandeep Singh had died on the same day, while his father Dharamvir Singh succumbed to his injuries at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital on June 17. Gagandeep’s brother Simranjit Singh had also sustained grievous injuries in the attack. Addressing a press conference here, B-division station house officer (SHO) Parvesh Chopra said Gagandeep, Dharamvir and Simranjit were present at the office of cable operator Mehnga Singh at Tahliwala bazaar when the accused attacked them over a minor issue.

“The quarrel turned fatal when the accused attacked the trio with sharp-edged weapons and bricks,” he confirmed.

Chopra said the arrested accused used to work at Amritsar liberty market.

He added that the accused had been at large since then and raids were being conducted to arrest them.

“On Thursday, we managed to nab three of them from their homes,” the SHO said, adding that a case under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the arrested accused. “After presenting them in a local court, we will take their remand to ascertain the identity of other unidentifi­ed people,” the SHO added.
