HISAR/PANCHKULA: The clan of former Haryana chief minister and Congress stalwart late Bhajan Lal on Monday sharply hit back at chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who on Sunday had accused Congress’ Adampur MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi of “tarnishing the image of his father Bhajan Lal.”

Bishnoi’s wife and Hansi MLA Renuka Bishnoi and Haryana’s former deputy chief minister Chander Mohan slammed Khattar in twin attacks, saying Khattar’s statement was the result of his frustrations and lack of awareness about the facts.

In a press statement on Sunday evening, Haryana government quoted Khattar, who addressed people at Siswal village of Hisar saying that “son of former CM Bhajan Lal had tarnished the image of his father”. Without naming Kuldeep Bishnoi, CM said that he (Bishnoi) never behaved like the son of his father.” Khattar’s key accusation was that Bishnoi wanted to contest 2014 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP on the condition of becoming CM himself even as the BJP had offered CM post to Bhajan Lal.

In a counter offensive, Chander Mohan — Bishnoi’s elder brother — said Khattar’s statement was the result of frustrations which he had incurred by befooling the people in the name of development during the last four years.

“The BJP is in a habit of deserting its alliance partners…The BJP had earlier betrayed Lok Dal, INLD, Haryana Vikas Party and Haryana Janhit Party in the state to achieve cheap political gain,” Chander Mohan said.

He sought clarifications from CM Khattar that what had prompted him to befool the people of Adampur in the name of former CM Bhajan Lal.

“The agreement of seat sharing of HJC and BJP was reached in 2012, while former CM Bhajan Lal had left for his heavenly abode in 2011. Khattar had misguided the people of Adampur to gain cheap popularity,” Chander Mohan added.

Meanwhile, the Hansi MLA, Renuka Bishnoi, said Khattar was giving statements without knowing the facts.
