AMRITSAR: Two days after Shailza Dwivedi, wife of an Army Major, Amit Dwivedi, was allegedly murdered by her husband’s colleague, Major Nikhil Rai Handa, her family members demanded capital punishment for the accused.

Shailza’s younger brother Sukaran Kalia was speaking to mediapersons at his house in Putlighar after her cremation here on Monday. Shailza was born and brought up here.

After doing MTech, Shailza worked as a professor at Guru Nanak Dev University here for five years. She was married to Major Amit Dwivedi in 2009.

Kalia said, “Major Nikhil Rai Handa, who killed my sister should be punished with capital punishment.”

Shailza’s body was found with her throat slit near the Delhi Cantonment Metro Station on Saturday.

He said, “The accused not only killed my sister but also virtually killed her husband and her son, who are in a great shock, and he should be punished for murdering the entire family.”

‘ACCUSED WAS STALKING SHAILZA’

Kalia said that the accused and his brother-in-law were posted in Dimapur, Nagaland, where they became friends. He said it is quite common that families of all officers of a unit meet one and another during get-togethers at the Army’s mess.

“In one such a common gathering, Major Handa became a friend of my sister. But, he mistook my sister’s friendly behaviour as a liking for him,” he said. He alleged that she was being stalked by Handa while her husband was posted at Dimapur.

Kalia, a lawyer here, said, recently, his brother-in-law Amit Dwivedi was posted with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and he was undergoing a two-month training in New Delhi for his new posting, and his sister chose to live in Amritsar’s Army base as her maternal house is also situated here.

“On Saturday, she had gone to Delhi’s Army Base hospital for physiotherapy from where the accused took her to an abandoned location in Delhi and killed her,” he added.

He also refuted the allegations of extramarital affair of his sister with the accused.

He said, “My sister was living a happy life with her husband and son, but the accused was obsessed with my sister and was enraged as she had been snubbing his advances.”
