KILLER SARPANCH YET TO LAND IN POLICE NET

ROHTAK: More than 15 days after he first shot at a man whom he suspected to have filed an RTI application seeking details against him, the sarpanch of Pipli village in Sonepat continues to be on the loose. Village head Ram Nivas has in between gunned down a 24-year-old man and issued death threats to six others.

The issue pertains to some property illegally occupied by the sarpanch, which the villagers said belonged to 35-year-old Ram Avtar. He was the sarpanch’s first target, but managed to survive the attack.

had filed an RTI query seeking the property registration details to expose the sarpanch’s fraud. Some of us had supported him. This did not go down well with the sarpanch, who then issued death threats to all who he believed were against him,” said Akash Dahiya, brother of Ashish, who was shot dead by sarpanch on Sunday.

“The police however have not been able to arrest him so far. He (sarpanch) had named seven people he would take revenge from and has already attacked two,” Akash added.

However, Kharkhoda station house officer Wazir Singh said they have formed four teams which are conducting raids at different places to nab the accused sarpanch.

“He will be arrested soon. We have deployed police in the village and provided security cover to the victim’s family to ensure nothing happens in future,” he added.
