Khattar to redress people’s grievance in Karnal tomorrow
KARNAL: In an attempt to make a direct contact with the people of his constituency, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar will hold a ‘Janta Darbar’ (open session) to hear complaints of the people of Karnal on June 29.
As per the schedule, the session will last for about four hours and a special help desk has been set up at the Karnal mini-secretariat for the complainants to get themselves registered for redressal of their grievances.
This is the second open session being organised by the chief minister for the people of his constituency as last such session was held in November last year.
The previous session had evoked huge response from people with around 450 of them registering themselves for the redressal of their complaints, though the chief minster could hear only 150 complaints directly from the complainants and the rest of them were told to hand over their issues in writing to the chief minister.
But this time, the session will be organised in the grain market to accommodate more people.
As per the officials of the Karnal district administration, the number of complainants may cross 600 mark this time as around 100 people have already got registered. Free bus service will also be provided to the people coming from different parts of Karnal to arrive at the venue.
THE SIGNIFICANCE
This session holds significance for Khattar as he is trying to focus on his constituency.
Earlier, such sessions were organised by Khattar’s OSD Amarendra Singh, who was appointed in November 2014 and given the task of redressing grievances of Karnal residents as the chief minister could not come there frequently. The OSD, however, ceased to hold such sessions in the last week of May and was reportedly shifted to Chandigarh.
Since the CM has announced that he would contest the next assembly elections from Karnal and the term of seven municipal corporations (MCs), including Karnal’s, is about to end in the first week of July, the open session is being considered as the CM’s attempt to bridge the gap between public and government.
