ACCUSED HAD A DISPUTE OVER MONEY AND WAS PRESSURING THE VICTIM’S FATHER TO COMPENSATE HIM

GURUGRAM: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Gurugram police rescued an eight-year-old girl, who was abducted from Panipat and taken to Malda in West Bengal, and arrested two men, including the victim’s father’s former business partner, in this connection.

The accused, identified as Saidur Rehman and Pradeep Barman alias Ravi Barman, had demanded a ransom of ₹2 lakh for the girl’s safe return.

Rehman was arrested from Malda on Wednesday and Barman was nabbed from his native city of Mumbai, Gurugram police spokesperson Subash Boken said.

“During investigation, we found that the girl’s father Abdul Rehman and prime accused, Ravi Barman, were business partners. They had suffered losses in their horticultural business in Pathankot, where they have fruit orchards,” DIG STF (Gurugram) Haryana, Satheesh Balan, said, adding that they had a dispute over money and Barman had been pressuring the victim’s father to compensate him.

“When the victim’s father refused to compensate Barman, he and accomplice Saidur Rehman, kidnapped Abdul’s daughter from outside her house in Panipat last Thursday and demanded a ransom of ₹2 lakh for her safe return,” Balan said.

“The location of the accused was traced by putting their phones on surveillance,” An STF official, requesting anonymity, said.

We dispatched teams for Mumbai and Malda in West Bengal to nab the duo, Balan said.

The girl, a student of class 2 in a private school of Panipat, was abducted while she was playing outside her house on June 21.

On June 23 (Saturday), she was rescued by STF from Kariali, Malda.
