AMRITSAR : The police claimed to have arrested another accused involved in the killing Congress councillor Pehalwan Gurdeep Singh here. The accused, identified as Kartik aka Ghoda, was informing every movement of the councillor to the alleged killers, the police said.
The councillor was shot dead by three unidentified men at a wrestling arena in the Gol Bagh area of the city on June 1.
Earlier, the police had arrested three notorious gangsters of Punjab — Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Sonu Kangla and Bobby Malhotra — and a bookie of Amritsar, Sonu Mota, in the case. The gangsters, who were already lodged in different jails of the state, had confessed to hatching the murder of the councillor through their aides.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP-investigation) Jagmohan Singh said assistant subinspector (ASI) Narinder Singh of Chowki Durgiana arrested Ghoda near the railway station on a tip-off. He said Ghoda following the councillor and had informed the ‘killers’ before he was killed in the wrestling arena. He said after presenting Ghoda in a local court, he will be taken on remand for interrogation.
He said a case under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act had already been registered against the accused at the Civil Lines police station.
