JALANDHAR : After an arbitration case was filed earlier this month by the Jindal Infrastructure (JITF) seeking damages worth ₹962 crore from the municipal corporation (MC) here, the civic body has also filed a counter case demanding ₹1,783 crore as damages from the company for causing a huge loss to the MC and inconvenience to the people.

The JITF, in its petition, has claimed that as the MC could not provide them land to set up the solid waste management plant in Jamsher village, it could not continue with the contract and left it within two years and suffered losses worth crores. Company officials also narrated instances of physical and mental abuse at the hands of the sanitation workers union and the registration of cases against them.

In its counter petition, the local bodies department of the MC has argued that the department had to face a huge loss after the company terminated the project midway in 2016.

The MC said it suffered heavy losses by buying machinery worth crores to support the company in the project. Besides, the people also had to face a lot of convenience.

The MC has also asked the JITF to explain why it terminated the project with Moga MC also which was not facing any problem.

The JITF has also filed an arbitration case against the Moga MC, seeking damages worth ₹480 crore.
