School principal suspended for sexually abusing girl in Himachal

The principal of a government high school in Kullu district's Nirmand block has been suspended for allegedly sexually harassing a school girl.

This was disclosed by education secretary Arun Kumar Sharma here on Friday.

The matter came to light after the girl told her parents about the sexual advances made by the principal.

The parents of the girl informed the police and brought the matter to the notice of the education department .

Acting on the complaint, the police had registered a case on July 2 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The principal was arrested by the police and later an inquiry against him conducted by the education department found him guilty.

The state education department has so far suspended six teachers for sexual offences against school children in the state.

The government has also directe d the directorat­e of higher education and elementary education to prepare a report on the teachers against who m cases of sexual harassment have been pending for the past many years.

Earlier this year, a Class-6 girl in Shimla's Government Middle School had accused a teacher of sexually harassing her.
