Four injured in clash at Karnal village, 8 booked

THE ACCUSED OPENED FIRE AS THE VICTIM REFUSED TO LEAVE POSSESSION OF HIS ONE BIGHA LAND

Three persons sustained bullet injuries and a woman was severely injured in a clash between two groups over possession of land at Raipur Jattan village of Karnal district.

The injured were identified as Dalbir Singh, his wife Santosh and nephews Bhupender Singh and Praveen Kumar. They were taken to the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital in Karnal, but later they were taken to a private hospital and their condition was said to be critical.

In his police complaint, Sumit Kumar alleged that his father Dalbir Singh was working in his fields when accused Surender Singh, Hawa Singh, Pawan Kumar, Praveen, Amarjeet Kaur, Sunita, Manmohan and Nirmal Singh reached there and asked him to leave the possession of one bhiga of his land.

As Dalbir refused, they manhandled him. When Dalbir’s wife Santosh and his nephews tried to stop them, the accused attacked them too and Hawa opened firing in which Dalbir, Bhupinder and Praveen sustained bullet injuries. They thrashed Santosh with sticks too.

Soon after the incident, Gharuanda police station in-charge Manoj Kumar reached the spot said that the clash erupted over the possession of land, which is in Dalbir’s name as per the revenue record. Further probe is on and the injured are undergoing treatment, he added.

The SHO said that police have booked eight people under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149, 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 and 54 of Arms Act. He said that no arrest has been made so far.
