Doctors at the BK Hospital here conducted the postmortem of drug peddler Essien Michel of Ghana on Saturday evening, who died on Friday during scuffle with police. There was no claimant for his body so far.

“The postmortem was done. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the hospital as there were no claimants of it,” SHO Surajkund Vishal Kumar said.

“As his passport shows, he belonged to Ghana, so we will be writing to its embassy in Delhi for taking possession of the body,” he added.

Meanwhile, his accomplice Ihechukwu of Nigeria, who was arrested from the spot when the incident took place in the wee hours of Friday on Surajkund road, was produced before the court twice since last evening.

“Ihechukwu was produced before the court late last evening which remanded him to four days police custody,” Kumar said.

However, on Saturday also, he was produced before the court with the drugs recovered from their possession.

“The drugs recovered are being now sent to forensic laboratory for testing,” said Ankhir police chowki in-charge Surinder Kumar.

Surprisingly, for the last over 35 hours, the arrested accused is playing hide and seek with the investigators when they inquire him about his passport.

“Since yesterday, we are trying to know about his passport, but he does not give a convincing reply,” the cops investigating the case said.

Police said some officials from the Nigerian embassy reached Faridabad but they too could not identify the accused, who claims to be a Nigerian.

“We have written to both the Nigerian and Ghana embassies. We are hopeful of getting a response by Monday,” police officials said. The cops have meanwhile, let go the Ola cab driver Faizul Hussain last evening.

Meanwhile, the investigators are also facing a tough time conversing with the accused due to the language problem.

Essien Michel had died after a bullet hit him during a scuffle with joint Gurugram and Faridabad police teams on Surajkund road in Faridabad.
