2 held for smuggling liquor in ambulance in Karnal

KARNAL: The district police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang of liquor smugglers by arresting two of its members who were carrying around 100 bottles of country-made liquor in an ambulance.

The accused have been identified as Manoj Kumar of Gheer village of Karnal district and Vakeel of Kunda Kalan village of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Kunjpura police station in-charge Janak Raj said they had got received a tip-off that the accused were smuggling liquor in an ambulance and a police team managed to arrest them at a check post near Gheer village.

He said the accused have been booked under Sections 1, 14 and 61 of the Punjab Excise Act.

They will be produced in a court on Thursday and police will seek their remand for further interrogat­ion.
