Haryana rights panel summons Faridabad MC commissioner
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) on Wednesday issued summons to commissioner, municipal corporation (MC), Faridabad, to appear with a report on the incident in which two persons had died by falling in a gutter about two years ago, or face strong action.
HHRC chairperson justice SK Mittal said in his order that the commission had taken a cognisance of the “unfortunate” incident and notices were being issued and report sought from the commissioner, since the past two years.
“Though the issue involved is very important relating to human rights of citizens, unfortunately, the commissioner, municipal corporation, Faridabad, has taken it casually and has not submitted the report till date’’, he said and added that it indicated gross negligence on the part of MC. “The attitude and action of the commissioner, municipal corporation, Faridabad, in not responding to the directions of the commission and non-filing of report in the matter after the passage of about two years, further amounts to causing hindrance in the functioning of the commission, resulting into gross injustice to the general public,” justice Mittal added.
He directed him to appear before the panel on August 23, along with the record, failing which strong recommendation for his suspension and departmental action against him would be made to the government. HTC
