Minor girl attacked as she foils rape bid in Panipat, hospitalised

KARNAL: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by a 23-yearold youth with a knife, after she foiled his attempt to rape her at her residence in Dalbir Nagar area of Panipat city on Tuesday.

In the attack, the girl sustained injuries on her head, shoulders and hands. She was taken to the civil hospital in Panipat, from where she was referred to the government medical college, Khanpur Kalan, as her condition was said to be critical.

The victim is daughter of a labourer and the accused, Kishan Kumar alias Kala, lives in her neighbourhood.

As per the police complaint filed by the father of the victim at Panipat’s Quila police station, the incident took place around 7pm on Tuesday when the victim was alone and sitting at her doorsteps. Accused Kala came there and forcibly took her inside the house.

Her father alleged that the accused attempted to rape her but the victim resisted. When the girl foiled the rape attempt, the accused attacked her with a knife.

The accused fled the spot immediately thereafter and the victim was taken to the civil hospital by her neighbours, her father told the police.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 323, 324, 342, 452, 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 12 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and started investigations.

The police said efforts are on to arrest the accused and the statement of the girl could not be recorded so far as she was unable to speak.
