Residents of Ballah village of Karnal district on Wednesday decided that they will not allow a rally by controversial BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini’s in the village on July 15.

The villagers took the decision following a meeting by members of all communities on Wednesday.

However, the lawmaker insisted he will visit the village and there is no change in his programme,

A meeting of all communities under the banner of ‘36 Biradri’ was held in the village, wherein the villagers decided that they will not allow any politician to hold a rally and disturb social harmony in the village.

They also appealed the district administration to divert the route of Saini’s proposed visit to several villages in Assand subdivision.

Talking to HT, Nafe Singh a resident of the Ballah village said the organisers, who were inviting the MP for a tea, have agreed to cancel the programme.

He said politicians in the past have tried to divide people on the caste basis after the Jat agitation in 2016.

Notably, the Jat dominated Ballah village was centre of protests by the members of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti and several protests were organized in the village during the Jat quota stir in the state.

Village sarpanch Dilawar Singh said about 10-12 people in the village had decided to organise Saini’s function on July 15 but they agreed to cancel the programme

However, Talking to HT, Saini said, “I will visit Ballah village as per the schedule and there is no change in my programme.”

He added, “My supporters were being pressured to cancel the programme and the district administration was also working under pressure from the members of a particular community, but I will not cancel the programme.”

HOWEVER, LAWMAKER SAYS HE WILL VISIT BALLAH VILLAGE ON JULY 15 AS PER SCHEDULE, ALLEGES VILLAGERS UNDER PRESSURE OF A PARTICULAR COMMUNITY
