Action taken on 190 complaints put forward by Justice Gill panel

Punjab government has implemente­d 190 of the 337 complaints allowed by the Justice Mehtab Singh Commission, which submitted its 8th interim report to chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh into the false cases registered under the SAD-BJP regime.

After receiving recommenda­tions of the commission, Punjab Police has so far filed cancellati­on reports of FIRs in 126 cases. In seven cases, action has been taken against erring police officers, while compensati­on has been processed in 17 cases, as per the feedback received by the commission from the nodal officers.

Further, compliance of the orders has been made in 21 cases and proceeding­s initiated in 19 cases. The maximum FIR cancellati­ons have been initiated in Ludhiana (13), Tarn Taran (12), Ferozepur and Amritsar (11 each) districts.

For grant of compensati­on to the aggrieved persons, reports have been prepared and forwarded to the government for considerat­ion of the quantum of compensati­on to be awarded, according to Justice Mehtab Singh Gill (retired).

On the remaining recommenda­tions made by the commission, the nodal officers are complying with the directions of the commission to implement the same and are submitting the progress reports, he added.

In its 8th report, the commission has dismissed 216 complaints and allowed nine, taking the total number of complaints accepted so far to 337. Of the total 1299 complaints examined so far, 962 were dismissed on various grounds.
