-

KARNAL: Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to increase the MSP of Kharif crops will help improve the financial condition of the farmers in the state. Addressing a gathering of farmers at grain market of Shahbad in Kurukshetra district, Khattar said, “The hike in the MSP was a historic decision and this will bring a change in the life of farmers and agriculture labourers of Haryana,” the CM said. He also patted his back saying that during the BJP rule, Haryana has ranked among the top three states in the rankings of states in Ease of Doing Business.

The CM also announced that the government will purchase sunflower seeds on MSP.

Khattar further said that the opposition was misleading people on the issue of SYL, Swaminathan Commission report and caste-based politics. He said that the present state government has ended corruption form government recruitment and made 26,000 appointments on merit basis.

BKU MEMBERS DETAINED

About 60 members of Bharatiya Kisan Union were detained as they were marching towards the venue of the rally to show black flags to the CM.

The farmers were protesting delay in disbursement of the pending sugarcane payment of about ₹800 crore by sugarmills in the state.

They also alleged that the NDA government at the Centre had misled the farmers over calculation of the input cost to decide the MSP of Kharif crops. Led by the BKU leader Rakesh Bains the farmers also held a protest at the grain market, from where they were detained and taken to Babain police station. HTC
