AMBALA :Haryana Health minister Anil Vij on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a cancer care centre (CCC) near Cantt civil hospital.

He said the ₹56 crore project will be completed by February 2019, adding that it will be the first CCC in the state.

The building for the centre will be constructed by Union health ministry’s subsidiary HLL Lifecare Limited (HLL) and the centre will benefit 50 lakh people of the region. It will ease the overcrowded PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Over 25 lakh people are affected with the dreaded disease and 7 lakh cancer patients are added every year in the country.

He said fully-equipped new civil hospitals with investment of ₹50 crore are already serving people of the area and over 1,000 surgeries have been performed in the cardiology department of the hospital in last year at nominal charges.

HLL chief secretary Shekhar Vrindu, vice president AK Kalra and deputy commissioner Sharandeep Kaur were present at the event.

BJP MLA ACCUSES VIJ OF NEGLECTING AMBALA CITY

Meanwhile, Ambala City BJP MLA Aseem Goel has alleged that Vij has deliberately neglected the assembly segment of Ambala City.

Goel said the CM in May 2016 had announced that the city civil hospital will be upgraded to 300 beds and the sports stadium in HUDA Sector 10 will be renovated. Both the projects are hanging fire while the ministries are with Vij.

Rubbishing the allegations, Vij said health services across the state have improved and cath labs are being set up in each district. He said the MLA is misleading the people.

Soon after becoming minister, he said he had ordered upgrading of the city civil hospital to 300 beds and had forwarded the proposal to the CM, he said. The MLA is demanding another 100-bedded hospital, which is not feasible, Vij added. Regarding the stadium, Vij said the sports stadium belongs to HUDA and only it can renovate the stadium .
