Harsh Dev Singh-led Panthers Party on Thursday staged a protest demonstration here against Udhampur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mohammed Rayees Bhat and demanded a CBI probe into the FIRs (First Information Reports) registered by him against Singh and his party workers in past one year.

Singh said, “After the Panthers Party exposed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s acts of commissions and omissions, a baffled BJP has been using civil administration to intimidate and suppress the Panthers Party.”

“In the last one year, SSP Bhat has lodged dozens of FIRs against the party workers and three against me. In 21 years of my political career, not even a single FIR was registered against me. If we demand water, electricity or staff in schools, FIRs are lodged against us,” he said.

“It is an attempt to demoralise the Panthers Party workers and for this Udhampur administration is being used as everyone knows that the Udhampur district is a strong hold of the party,” he said, while demanding a CBI probe into the FIRs registered by the SSP against the party.

Following an unseemly fracas in Udhampur deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, the Udhampur Police lodged an FIR against Singh.

Bhat said, “Following unruly behavior of the Panthers Party leader and derogatory language used by him against the deputy commissioner and me, Udhampur police lodged an FIR against Singh under Sections 353, 188, 504 and 147 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
