Journo’s car vandalised in Srinagar
SRINAGAR:Barely six weeks after the assassination of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari, unidentified people smashed the car of another journalist and former BBC correspondent, Altaf Hussain at the Press Colony triggering concern in the fraternity.
Hussain is a freelance journalist who has worked as North India correspondent of BBC and before that he was with Times of India.
The rear windshields of Hussain’s sports utility vehicle and another car of his relative were smashed on Wednesday night. The attackers had then entered the car parked on road, outside Hussain’s rented accommodation in Lal Chowk.
“Nothing was stolen but it seems that the assailants had searched my vehicle as the documents were scattered,” Hussain said. The place is less than a furlong (an eighth of a mile, 220 yards) away from the site where Rising Kashmir editor and his two security guards killed in his car on June 14.
“Media community is anguished and scared. Every member of the fraternity is seeking answers from authorities after their claims of security beef up following Shujaat’s killing,” Hussain said.
After Bukhari’s murder, a police vehicle continues to remain parked on one end of the Press Colony. Hussain questioned police about how the incident happened despite their presence.
