Indian shuttlers continue to make progress in Russia

PAY FOR DAMAGES: IOA
NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association has asked national federations, including those of basketball, hockey and athletics, to cough up their respective share in the ~59,262 bill that the IOA had to pay for “the damages” caused by the country’s athletes and officials at this year’s Commonwealth Games Village in Australia.
PAKISTAN BEAT INDIA IN WORLD JUNIOR SQUASH
CHENNAI :India suffered a 1-2 loss against arch-rivals Pakistan in the pre-quarterfinals of the WSFWorld Junior Squash team championship here on Thursday.
In what was a hugely anticipated clash, the visitors from across the border, seeded 11th, marched ahead as Haris Qasim and Abbas Zeb posted wins over Rahul Baitha and Yash Fadte, respectively, after losing the opening match.
KAPUR STARTS WELL
PATTAYA: Shiv Kapur began his title defence at the Royal Cup with a 4-under 66 in windy conditions to be placed Tied-5th at the end of the first day, on Thursday.
The 36-year-old, who won three times last year including the Royal Trophy, had six birdies against two bogeys.
Kapur was three shots behind Thailand’s Raththee Sirithanakunsak, who signed for a seven-under-par 63.
APPEALS DISMISSED
ZURICH: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed appeals from three Russian athletes against decisions issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that had found them guilty of violating anti-doping rules.
The CAS confirmed the IOC’s decisions to disqualify track cyclist Ekaterina Gnidenko from the 2012 London Olympic Games and Maria Abakumova, silver medallist in javelin, and Tatyana Lebedeva, silver medallist in long jump and triple jump, from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The trio had appealed their bans to the court, looking to have them set aside.
