HISAR: A family of the Naik community has taken shelter at the Hisar civil hospital since last four days after a youth of their family was allegedly thrashed by Jats following a dispute over a goat grazing on an empty plot belonging to the Jats at Sarsana village under the Barwala police’s jurisdiction.

The police arrested five accused in the case. SHO Devender Nain said they were produced before a local court on Monday, from where they were sent to judicial custody, station house officer (SHO), Barawala, Devender Nain said.

Meanwhile, state president of the All India Naik Community, Har Bhagwan, reached the civil hospital on Monday to take into account the details from the family of the victim.

Talking to mediapersons, Har Bhagwan said, “This started on July 22, after some goats of Vinod Kumar, 30 a Naik, ate vegetable saplings from an empty plot of the Jats belonging to Maghar, Amit and Binder Singh. Following this, on July 26, Maghar started fighting over the matter. It was earlier resolved by the village panchayat but it still blew out of proportion. The accused thrashed Vinod, a labourer, and fled from the spot. The matter was brought to the knowledge of the Barwala police.”

He further said that the family is scared as they allege that some unidentified youths reached their house and threatened them to leave the village. Since then, the family left the village and took shelter at the civil hospital, demanding safety and security.
