TWO ASSAILANTS GUN DOWN REGISTERED MEDICAL PRACTITION­ER IN MOGA

Moga Two unidentifi­ed assailants shot dead a Registered Medical Practition­er (RMP), Mandeep Singh 35, at Lopon village in the wee hours of Moga on Wednesday, the police have claimed. A resident of Badhni Kalan village, 4km from Lopon, Mandeep had been running a private clinic in his village for eight years. The police said that prima facie, the bullet wounds on Mandeep’s body were from his own gun, he had taken along for a house call.

Police said that about 5am, two unidentifi­ed men visited Mandeep’s house in Badhni Kalan and requested him to visit their house in Lopon, saying that their mother had suddenly taken ill. Amarjeet Singh, the father of Mandeep, said, “The last we saw of Mandeep was when he went with the men in their car. When he did not return till 8am, we started a search. Soon, somebody told us that he had been murdered and the body was found in the fields near Lopon village.”

SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor and Nihal Singh Wala DSP Subeg Singh rushed to the spot. DSP Subeg said the accused had fired two bullets at Mandeep and had also taken away his licenced revolver. “A case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against the two unidentifi­ed men at the Badhni Kalan police station,” the DSP added.

Mandeep is survived by a minor son, wife, three sisters and parents. The body was handed over to his parents after postmortem.
