People living near the Nandigram of Karnal municipal corporation (MC) have alleged that the cattle there are dying amid lack of proper facilities and fodder. The Nandigram is located at Phoonsgarh village.

The residents also held a protest at the Nandigram and nearby gaushala alleging that there was nobody to lift the carcasses of the dead bulls, which has become a major problem in their area.

“The condition is very bad here. They do not provide fodder to the cattle. They do not even lift their carcasses and 10 to 15 cattle die every day. It is causing a lot of problem to the nearby residents,” said Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Phoonsgarh village. Kumar said that around four dead cattle were still lying there unattended. The locals demand shifting of the Nandigram and cowshed.

BJP’s local leader and former senior deputy mayor of Karnal MC Krishan Garg, who had been appointed to take care of the Nandigram, refuted the allegations saying, “Only three bulls died in the past two days but the people are raising a hur and cry over it to tarnish my image.” He said that the boundary wall of the Nandigram collapsed a few days ago following which stray dogs entered the Nandigram.

Meanwhile, an official of the Nandigram, Dheeraj Kumar, executive officer of the Karnal MC, who reached to inspect the Nandigram said, “Taking care of these stray cattle is challenging and most of the cattle brought here are already ill.”

On why the bodies were not lifted immediately, he said that efforts were being made to improve the system and the issues raised by the locals will be solved.

As per information, the number of stray bulls increased manifold in the Nandigram in the past few years but there was not sufficient facilities to match the number.

The Nandigram and cowshed were set up in December 2016 by the Karnal MC on about eight acres of land at Phoonsgarh village.
