GURUGRAM: A day after a 30-yearold woman was found dead at her house in Sirhaul village, Sector 18, the police arrested the co-wife of the deceased’s husband and his brother for the crime. The deceased, Ayesha Khatoon, was strangulated and stabbed 35 times on Monday.

The police said the co-wife, identified as Gulshan (21), was allegedly having an extra marital affair with her husband’s brother, and Khatoon had come to know about their alliance.

Fearing being exposed, Gulshan planned to kill Khatoon and attacked her when she was alone at their home in Sector 18, said Sector 17/18 SHO Chander Prakash.

“The two accused were arrested Tuesday night and have confessed to killing the victim. Gulshan said that she first choked the woman and after she died, her brother-in-law inflicted multiple cuts on the victim’s body,” said inspector Prakash, who is the investigating officer in the case.

The police said her husband was allegedly at his workplace when the incident took place.

“We checked the attendance records from the man’s workplace. He was in his office,” Prakash said, adding that the police were questioning him and were yet to rule out his involvement.

The accused were produced in district court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody. On Tuesday, forensic experts had said that a study of the wounds suggested that the victim was “tortured”.

The autopsy had revealed that Khatoon’s body had 35 cuts, including many superficial ones and a few deep cuts, possibly inflicted with a kitchen knife or small screwdriver.
