NEWDELHI:A video editor and pianist working with singer Mika Singh has been arrested from Delhi for allegedly stealing cash and other valuables from the performer’s Mumbai home.

Ankit Vasan, 27, was arrested from west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Tuesday after a team from Kirti Nagar police station got a whiff about his presence in the Capital, Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (west), said.

The DCP said Vasan’s family lives in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, but he had been living in Mumbai and working as an editor and pianist with Mika Singh for the last 15 years.

The singer had approached the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai last Sunday after he had discovered that lakhs of rupees in Indian and US currency, as well as some gold jewellery had been stolen from his home in the same neighbourhood.

“The singer had checked CCTV footage to identify Vasan as a suspect. A case was registered at Oshiwara police station, but Delhi Police too was aware that Vasan could try to escape to Delhi,” said an investigator.

“Vasan had been stealing from the singer’s home for the last one year. He had access to the home and would steal from the drawers. He escaped after he felt that his crime had been detected,” said the officer.

Delhi Police said they were on Vasan’s trail since Monday. “We have recovered $6,900 and ₹50,000 cash he had stolen recently. Earlier, he had been stealing lakhs of rupees and depositing them to his account. We have seized his three accounts in which ₹5 lakh of the stolen money was kept,” said the DCP.
