JAMMU: The Samba police arrested Talib Hussain, the selfproclaimed advocate and Bakerwal activist, from Tral in Pulwama district on Wednesday, for allegedly raping a married woman around one-and-a-half months ago in a forest in Udhampur district.

Samba senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anil Magotra confirmed his arrest from Tral.

Samba SHO Chanchal Singh said, “A rape complaint was lodged by a married woman against the accused at the Samba police station and an FIR under section 376 of the Ranbir Penal Code and 4/25 of the Arms Act was registered against him.”

A copy of the FIR accessed by HT reads that one-and-a-half month ago, the 30-year-old victim, a resident of Chadwa Mansar in Majalta tehsil of Udhampur district, had gone to the Chadwa jungle for grazing cattle when Talib Hussain, a resident of Kakrei in Majalta, sexually assaulted her.

“The accused, a relative of the victim, was carrying a tokka (dagger) and thrashed the victim before allegedly committing the crime. He threatened me by showing the tokka (dagger) saying that he would kill me if I disclosed the incident to anyone. Due to fear, I could not tell about this (incident) to anyone. Today, I told the whole story to my husband. So, it is requested that necessary action may kindly be initiated against the accused,” reads the FIR.

The controversial Bakerwal activist, who allegedly collected a huge amount of money to provide justice to the Kathua rape and murder victim, had also landed in trouble some time ago after his wife, Nusrat, had approached the Samba police and filed a case against him alleging domestic violence and demanding dowry.
