Drug issue: Khattar responds to Captain, seeks joint action
chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday sought “joint action” from his Punjab counterpart Capt Amarinder Singh to eradicate the menace of drugs.
An official spokesperson said that Khattar in a communication to Punjab chief minister said the Haryana government was committed to effectively checking the smuggling and sale of narcotics, and to fully cooperating with all the states.
Khattar was responding to a letter from Punjab chief minister on curbing the drug menace.
Khattar said Haryana did not cultivate narcotics. The state police have taken stringent measures to apprehend persons involved in the sale of smuggled drugs and trace their roots and transportation routes, Khattar said.
A special task force (STF) was set up in January, 2018 to curb drug menace and arrest drug smugglers. The STF is working in close coordination with neighbouring states, including Punjab, he said.
Khattar stressed the need for improvement in actionable intelligence shared by the Punjab Police suggesting regular border district meetings between senior police officers of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan for sharing intelligence and devising strategy. “I assure you of strict and prompt action whenever any precise and authentic information is shared by Punjab Police”, he said.
