Hisar MLA assaulted by protesters outside his house

HISAR : Hisar BJP MLA Kamal Gupta was assaulted on Sunday by a group of protesters who were holding hunger strike in front of his residence here in protest against the enhancement notice served by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to the residents.
The incident took place when Gupta was going to attend a rally to be addressed by Haryana’s chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Talking to HT, Gupta said, “I was on the way to the rally venue, when some protesters stopped my way and lay on the ground in front of my car. When I came out of the vehicle, some women tore off my clothes. Other protesters attacked me with sticks they had brought to show black flags to me.”
He added, “My guards soon surrounded me and saved me from them. I am taking up the matter of enhancement with the chief administrator of HSVP and even (CM). It is really painful that they are still trying to assault me.”
Gupta said he did not complain about the matter with the police.
However, the police registered a case against around 50 people under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servants in discharge of public function), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint made by SI Daya Nand. They also arrested six persons in this connection.
Later, several protesters gheraoed the civil lines police station demanding release of those arrested.
Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Shiv Charan said, “The accused were produced in local court on Monday, where they were granted bail.”
He said additional police force has already been deployed outside the MLA’s house. “No one will be allowed to breach law and order situation.”
Jitender Sheoran, president of the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Sector 16-17, said, “Not even a single person tried to misbehave with MLA Gupta, but his guards manhandled some of the protesting women. We have also lodged a complaint to the police.”
He added, “We were assured that the government has accepted our demand for the re-calculation of charges to be paid to HSVP and we ended our hunger strike which was started on FRiday. But later the guards of Kamal Gupta misbehaved with protesting women.”
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP Jitender Singh said, “We have received a complaint from the protesters too. We are investigating into the matter.”
