Man slits mentally challenged sister’s throat in Bhiwani, held

-

ROHTAK: The Bhiwani police have arrested a man for slitting his 36-year-old sister’s throat using a screwdriver in Loharu township of the district.

The deceased has been identified as Sharmila Devi. Her younger brother, Pawan Kumar, 33, killed her at their residence in ward number 8.

The police said Sharmila was bed-ridden and unmarried, and lived with her mother and two brothers. On Saturday, her elder brother Ram Bilas had gone to hospital in Bhiwani city along with his wife and mother, leaving Sharmila home with Pawan.

In the evening, Pawan informed the family that someone had killed Sharmila when he had gone out for some time. He opened the lockers in the house and scattered various items around to project it as a case of robbery. The police then registered a case of murder against unknown persons. However, as cops did not get any clue about any outsider entering the house, they questioned Pawan, who confessed to the murder under sustained interrogation.

He was arrested on Monday and produced in court that sent him on judicial remand.

The police said Pawan told them he “liberated his sister” as no one in the family took care of her. “He said he could not see his sister in pain and his family members used to treat her like a burden,” the police said.

The police said Pawan was also under medication. He was depressed for not being able to marry so far, they said.
