Slain Kashmiri ultra features in police recruitment shortlist
SRINAGAR: A 25-year-old militant, who was killed four days ago in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district, has been shortlisted for the post of sub-inspector (SI) in Jammu and Kashmir Police.
On August 3, Khurhsid Malik was killed along with his colleague Riyaz Ahmad Dar, in a gunfight with security forces, at Sopore in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
The incident took place two days after he joined the militancy.
Malik was a BTech graduate and resident of Arabal village in Pulwama.His name has appeared at serial number 1,913 in the list of candidates shortlisted for the interview for sub-inspector executive and armed wings of qualifying candidates.
The written test was conducted in June this year.
According to his relatives, Malik had completed his BTech from a university in Jammu last year and also cleared The Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE).
Police said a total of 2,181 candidates have been shortlisted for Personality Assessment Test, including 1,525 from Jammu province and 656 candidates from the Kashmir province.
On July 31, Malik had left his home to fill the form for Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) examination. He went missing on the same day.
This is not the first time that highly-qualified youths have gone missing or been killed right after joining.
In January 2018, Mannan Wani, a 26-year-old PhD scholar, had gone missing from the Aligarh Muslim University before he joined militancy. Wani’s joining of militancy had created quite a flutter in the Valley and outside.
Following his joining, a Kashmir University teacher Mohammad Rafi Bhat , a scholar of PhD in sociology was killed in a gunfight with security forces just a day after joining in May.
In April, 28-year-old Aitmad Hussain Dar, who was pursuing MPhil, was killed in Shopian, almost six months after he joined militancy.
