Congress to give 27% quota to BCs in Class 1, 2 jobs: Surjewala

HISAR: The Congress will provide 27% reservation to backward classes (BCs) in Class 1 and 2 government jobs, if the party is voted to power in the state, senior party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Saturday.
Addressing a backward class rally at the grain market here, Surjewala also said the Congress government will also set up a backward class corporation in the state, appoint one member each of SC and BC category in Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) and Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), besides filling backlog posts reserved for them within a year.
“Our government will provide Rs 500 crore per annum to the backward class corporation to give soft loans to unemployed BC youths on 4% interest,” said the AICC communications in-charge.
Surjewala, who is being considered a contender for the CM’s post in Haryana, has lately been addressing rallies across the state.
He said the Congress government will support potters, carpenters, barbers and ironsmiths under the aegis of Haryana Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections Welfare Board, which would work to enhance employment avenues for less educated BC youths.
Surjewala said it was always the Congress government which increased the reservation quota for backward classes in the state. He said the BCs were provided 2% quota in 1952, which got increased to 10% in 1980-81 by a Congress government. “The BC quota was further increased to 27% for non-gazetted posts and 10% for gazetted posts in 1995-96 again by a Congress Government. It was further increased to 15% for Gazetted posts in 2014 by the Congress,” he added.
He said the Congress party is committed to the welfare of poor and deprived sections of the society. Slamming the ruling BJP, he said, “Before 2014 elections, the BJP had assured the people of backward classes that the party will provide them government jobs and other facilities, but as soon as they came to power at the Centre and in the state, they forgot their promises.” He said the Khattar government failed to maintain law and order during the Jat agitation in 2017 and Panchkula violence.
