Family claims their missing son was among killed militants

A family in north Kashmir’s Lanagate village has claimed that their son was among the five militants who were killed by the army in upper reaches of Lidder Rafiabad on Wednesday.

Bashir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Langate, approached Langate police claiming that his son Muzuffar Ahmad Mir, who has been missing from his house from past seven days, was among the slain militants.

He said they recognised his son through the pictures of militants which went viral on social media.

Police have started verifying claims made by the family and sought more details from Mir. “We are verifying the details and if true, the body will be handed over to the family,’’ a senior police officer said.

A shutdown was observed in Langate town on Saturday as people demanded body of the slain militant.

The bodies of all the five militants were buried in Hamam forests by local villagers in the presence of police officials. The family has now demanded for exhumation of the body.

The army claimed on Friday that five militants killed in the forests of Lidder Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district were fresh infiltrators and affiliated to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The army had launched an operation on Sunday after they received an input about a group of militants hiding in the upper reaches of Rafiabad in Hamam forests.

Commander, 7 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, brigadier Dharam Raj said the slain militants were foreign militants who had recently infiltrated from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
