30-year-old man shot dead over family dispute

CRIME ALERT Victim’s wife and mother also sustain bullet injuries

A 30-year-old man was shot dead while his wife and mother sustained bullet injuries, after his relative allegedly opened fire at them over a family dispute in Kot Khalsa area, here on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Partap Singh. The injured are, his mother Dalbir Kaur and wife Simranjit Kaur.

The accused Jujhar Singh alias Sunny of the same locality fled from the spot after committing the crime.

The victim’s sister Harmeet Kaur was married to one Harjit Singh of Guru Nanak Pura area in Amritsar. Harmeet’s in-law had been allegedly harassing her. Harmeet along with her brother Partap had lodged a police complaint against her in-laws, including the accused Jujhar Singh, who is a close relative of Harjit Singh.

Additional deputy commission­er of police (ADCP- City1) Jagjit Singh Walia said, following a police complaint against Jujhar, he had been nursing a grudge against Partap Singh.

“Jujhar accompanie­d by an unidentifi­ed man, reached outside the Partap’s house on their motorcycle at around 10pm on Sunday,” said the ADCP.

“Jujhar entered Partap’s house and started firing indiscrimi­nately. During the incident, Partap was killed on the spot while his wife and mother received bullet injuries in their legs,” said police.

“The duo is undergoing treatment at a private hospital,” said polcie.

Based on the complaint of Partap’s wife, a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act had been registered against Jujhar and his aide at Kot Khalsa police station.

“Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused,” he added.
