The families of the Behbal Kalan firing victims were conspicuous by their absence at the Congress rally that was organised to pay homage to the two youths killed in the 2015 incident.

In contrast, the local leaders led by ex-MLA Mohd Sadiq even presented a portrait of the two youths — Gurjit Singh and Krishan Bhagwan Singh — as a memento to PPCC president Sunil Jakhar.

Both Gurjit and Harbhagwan were killed in the police firing during the public protests in the wake of the sacrilege incidents.

Firing victim Gurjit’s father, Sadhu Singh, was at his home in the adjoining Sarwan village when the HT team visited him after the Congress event. He said as many as 20 cops had visited him this morning to convey that Congress leaders will visit him.

“Leaders visit is not an issue with me, but we want the arrest of those found guilty by the Commission, whether they are political bigwigs or the police officers,” said Sadhu Singh.

Second victim Krishan Bhagwan’s son Sukhraj Singh said he was not aware of the Congress event, adding that “this is all a political stunt”.

“We were neither invited nor anybody from the organisers informed us about the event, and it hurts more as my father’s picture was presented as a memento (at the rally),” Sukhraj said.

The organisers didn’t inform us about the event, and it hurts more as my father’s picture was presented as a memento (at the rally). SUKHRAJ SINGH, son of Krishan Bhagwan, Behbal Kalan firing victim
