CHANDIGARH: The microblogging site Twitter has blocked the account of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) legal adviser Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Pannun uses twitter handle @pannun_lawyer, which is now showing a warning that the account is being temporarily restricted as there has been “some unusual activity” on it.

Pannun was behind organising a meeting in Trafalgar Square, London, on August 12 to build support for Referendum 2020, which he has been propagating for getting Punjab declared as a separate state of Khalistan. The SFJ had named August 12 meeting as London declaration.

In the recent past, Pannun had used his twitter handle to post controversial and provoking messages promoting Referendum 2020 and August 12 meeting, which had been opposed by the Indian government. The blocking of his account comes in that backdrop. Pannun’s twitter messages invited Sikhs, particularly youth, to Trafalgar Square meeting making a promise to reimburse their travel expenses.

SFJ was also behind the attack on Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK in New York and California last month. The videos of attack on GK are still visible on Pannun’s twitter profile.

Pannun was not available for comments, despite repeated attempts. Reacting to the blocking of his account, SFJ tweeted, “Rattled at success of London declaration, India forced twitter to block SFJ legal advisor Pannun’s account”.“India’s state terrorism to suppress the democratic and legal campaign to liberate Punjab will not succeed, “the SFJ said on twitter handle.
