Five persons died and 21 were injured as a bus fell into a 150- foot gorge in Almora district on Thursday, district administration informed.

District magistrate (DM) Almora said a Garhwal Motor Owners Union (GMOU) bus in Mohanri on Bhatrojkhan-Bhikiyasan motor route fell into a gorge at 3.15pm. Twelve others were admitted to a primary health centre in Bhatrojkhan while two returned home.

The road was wide and no rain was reported in the area at the time of the accident. District magistrate said the reason behind the accident was brake failure. There were 26 passengers on the bus.

“The accident occurred due to brake failure,” Nitin Singh Bhadauria, DM Almora, said.
